Farmer is still more projection than finished NFL player. The 17.5 sacks and 44 tackles for loss at Lane explain why teams keep giving him a look, because the length and effort are easy to like. So far, though, that has translated to only eight games and three tackles. Starting the year on injured reserve makes the path even narrower. He is a worthwhile developmental edge, but expectations should stay modest.
Strengths: He has a long frame, an energetic chase style and a real history of backfield production at Lane. Farmer can use effort and reach to stay involved after the first rush stalls and has the body type to contribute on special teams.
Weaknesses: His small-college dominance has not translated into pressure or tackle production against NFL blockers. He needs more refined hand counters and play strength, while the injured-reserve designation delays the repetitions he needs most.
