Cole Kmet Scouting Report (3)
Kmet is the stabilizer of the tight-end room: a dependable blocker, trustworthy target and a player who can still make the season's biggest catch when Chicago needs one.
Strengths: Run blocking, pass protection, durability, red-zone experience, intelligence and clutch reliability.
Weaknesses: His target volume dipped with Loveland's arrival, and he is more steady than explosive after the catch.
Kmet handled a smaller role without becoming less useful. His catches dropped to 30 once Loveland emerged, but he still started 15 games, blocked, moved the chains and caught the game-tying touchdown in the divisional round. With 288 career receptions, Chicago knows exactly what it has: a sturdy, reliable tight end who can do everything competently. He is a seven for me. Loveland is the more explosive target now, but having Kmet makes two-tight-end personnel genuinely difficult to defend.
Strengths: Kmet brings size, dependable hands, formation flexibility and far more blocking experience than the typical receiving tight end. He understands spacing, boxes out defenders and remains trustworthy on third down and near the goal line.
Weaknesses: He does not separate or accelerate like Loveland, and his 2025 target volume fell sharply. Quick man-coverage defenders can stay attached, while his blocking is solid rather than overpowering against top defensive ends.
