Thomas is fighting from the depth-chart side of the room, where every special-teams rep matters. He has to make the coaches comfortable using him wherever the weekly game plan has a gap.
Strengths: Developmental opportunity, positional flexibility and special-teams pathway.
Weaknesses: Limited established NFL production and steep competition for available safety snaps.

Thomas has the profile of an undrafted safety worth developing. At Oregon State he played a lot, made 191 tackles, broke up 17 passes and was trusted as a captain after fighting back from an injury redshirt. That makes him more than a random camp addition. Still, the Bears' safety room is crowded and he has no NFL game tape, so a five is appropriate. Special teams and steady practice work are the immediate path.
Strengths: He offers 6-foot-2 length, college production, leadership and a willingness to tackle. Thomas has seen enough football to recognize plays and has shown he can finish at the ball in both coverage and run support.
Weaknesses: He is an undrafted rookie with no pro reps to validate his range or coverage transitions. The previous injury interruption and a crowded depth chart leave little room for a slow adjustment.
