Courtland Sutton Scouting Report (4)
8 catches on 16 targets and 82 yds is bad. looks slower and the big plays are gone. denver wins with Nix hitting other guys. not great.
Sutton remains Denver's big-body standard on the boundary: poised, strong through contact and dangerous when Nix has to make a tight-window throw. Waddle's speed should make his job friendlier, not smaller.
Strengths: Catch radius, contested catches, red-zone ability, veteran poise and chemistry with Nix.
Weaknesses: Not a pure burner, so he benefits when the offense creates space with formation and complementary speed.
Sutton is still Denver's steady big-play adult at receiver. Two straight 1,000-yard seasons show his chemistry with Nix is real, and he remains tough to cover when the ball is in the air. An eight fits an established No. 1 who wins on third down and in the red zone. Waddle's arrival may reduce some forced targets, which could actually make Sutton more efficient.
Strengths: He has elite size for the position, dependable contested-catch skill and a long record of producing first downs and touchdowns. Sutton is a physical boundary target who can anchor a young quarterback's passing game.
Weaknesses: At 30, he must manage the normal decline in top-end burst and separation. His physical style can also invite tighter coverage, so he benefits when Denver's other playmakers prevent defenses from tilting coverage his way.
