Gumbs is a projection worth watching because he has not been playing defense forever. The Colts see a stand-up edge who can rush, drop and help on special teams, and he backed that idea with a preseason sack. His development curve may be steeper than most rookies.
Strengths: Athletic background, positional flexibility, preseason flash and immediate special-teams potential. He offers a different kind of movement profile at edge.
Weaknesses: The offensive-to-defense transition means his technique is less refined than long-time edge players. He needs reps reading run concepts and building dependable pass-rush counters.
