Garvin is a professional depth piece who needs to make his snaps clean and physical. In this room, usefulness comes from holding the edge and not making the stars play too many downs.
Weaknesses: Limited recent production and a crowded rotation make it difficult to project a large defensive role.

Garvin has been around long enough to understand the job, but he is still fighting for a real NFL role. His 38 games and 1.5 career sacks point to reserve depth, and this season starts on injured reserve after he signed a futures contract. There is some value in his size, practice-squad experience and willingness to do special teams. A four is fair: useful insurance if healthy, but not somebody the Bears should count on for consistent pass rush.
Strengths: He has an NFL-ready frame, understands multiple fronts and has enough experience to provide competent emergency snaps. Garvin competes hard on the edge and has played both conventional NFL and spring-league football.
Weaknesses: Production has never matched his college upside, with just 1.5 career sacks in 38 games. He lacks a consistently winning rush move and begins the year unavailable on injured reserve.
