Dobbs is a useful backup because he can keep a play alive and has now earned staff trust in a familiar system. The preseason finish mattered. He is not Goff stylistically, but the mobility gives Detroit a different emergency answer.
Strengths: Mobility, veteran resilience, system familiarity, preseason execution, and off-script creation.
Weaknesses: His passing consistency can fluctuate, and he must avoid turning a creative scramble into a preventable turnover.
