Zakelj has stuck because he knows the system and can cover more than one line spot. His best stretch came in 2024, when he dressed for every game and made two starts, but last year shrank to three appearances. He is listed behind the guards now and is also on injured reserve. That makes him a sensible depth piece rather than a real starting challenger: useful when healthy, but with a fairly low ceiling until he proves otherwise.
Strengths: He brings tackle length to an interior role, understands San Francisco's movement-heavy run game and has four years in the same building. His ability to cover guard and emergency tackle helps roster construction.
Weaknesses: Zakelj has only two starts in four seasons and can struggle to anchor quickly against interior power. Limited 2025 work and the present injury designation leave him needing to re-establish both health and a game-day role.
