Matlock is the rare player whose job description really does have a slash in it. He can lead-block, moonlight on the defensive front and cover special teams, and he even grabbed a touchdown last year. That kind of effort player helps a 48-man game-day roster. The immediate issue is getting healthy enough to resume that multi-role value.
Strengths: Exceptional positional versatility, physicality, special-teams usefulness and a team-first approach. He can fill several roles without forcing the Chargers to dedicate extra roster spots.
Weaknesses: The hybrid role means he is not a full-time standout at one premium position, and his current reserve/injured status creates availability uncertainty. He must stay healthy and avoid being stretched too thin.
