Evan Engram Scouting Report (3)
Engram gives Denver a true speed mismatch at tight end rather than another extra blocker. He can flex, run past linebackers and create the sort of middle-field stress that makes this passing game harder to solve.
Strengths: Speed, receiving production, route running, mismatch value and run-after-catch ability.
Weaknesses: Blocking is not his calling card, and his effectiveness depends on staying available after an extensive NFL workload.
Engram is still a receiver playing tight end, and that is useful in an offense with a young quarterback. Fifty catches in his first Denver year gave Nix a dependable middle-of-the-field option, even if the touchdowns were sparse. A seven fits a proven Pro Bowl-level pass catcher whose job is to keep chains moving and make coverage decisions uncomfortable.
Strengths: He has polished routes, quickness for the position and a long record of target-volume production. Engram can work from several alignments and create easy completions against linebackers and safeties.
Weaknesses: He is more of a receiving mismatch than a dominant in-line blocker, and his first Denver season produced only one touchdown. At 31, maintaining burst and availability is more important than adding a new ceiling.
