Gaines is a classic late-summer stabilizer: a veteran interior body who can play tough, eat snaps and help a new scheme settle. He earned the spot quickly because that role matters.
Strengths: Experience, size, run-defense profile and immediate roster impact.
Weaknesses: Late arrival creates a scheme-learning curve and offers less developmental upside than Buffalo's young tackles.

Gaines is a useful grown-man addition. He is 312 pounds, has played 108 NFL games and knows how to keep an interior front from getting pushed around. There is some real pass-rush history too—14.5 career sacks, including strong Rams seasons—but his main job in Buffalo is dependable rotation work and early-down strength. A six fits a veteran who can help immediately without needing to be the center of the pass rush.
Strengths: He has a thick anchor, veteran hand use and extensive experience in successful defensive fronts. Gaines can absorb blocks, play hard through contact and provide occasional interior push when offenses focus elsewhere.
Weaknesses: He is 30 and does not have the quick-twitch ceiling of younger interior rushers. Sack production has been sporadic, so he is best used in a managed rotation rather than as an every-down disruptor.
