Deone Walker Scouting Report (3)
Walker has the rare size to absorb blocks and enough movement to make a quarterback feel him. Buffalo can use him as a nose or a disruptive interior piece, which keeps the front flexible.
Strengths: Size, length, interior pass-rush flashes, run disruption and positional versatility.
Weaknesses: Elbow health was monitored in camp, and consistency versus NFL leverage is still developing.
Walker was asked to do real work immediately and responded with 16 starts, 39 tackles and flashes that justify the investment. At 6-foot-7 and 331 pounds, he can alter run lanes just by occupying space, yet he moves well enough to bat passes and chase plays. The one sack shows the next step: turning traits into backfield finishes. A seven is a good bet on a young starter with a high ceiling, not a claim that he is finished.
Strengths: His size, length and early durability are rare. Walker can absorb double teams, clog lanes, affect throwing windows and has enough mobility to be more than a stationary nose tackle.
Weaknesses: One rookie sack shows that pass-rush finish is still developing. Pad level and conditioning must stay disciplined at his size, and he can lose leverage when smaller interior linemen get underneath him.
