Austin Booker Scouting Report (3)
Booker plays with a rusher's appetite and a lot of grit. His late-season production suggests he can be more than just a complementary piece opposite Sweat.
Strengths: Motor, length, improving sack production, toughness and a high-upside role in the rotation.
Weaknesses: A prior knee injury and a small full-season sample leave some uncertainty about durability and week-to-week consistency.
Booker stopped looking like a developmental fifth-rounder last season and started looking like a real second edge. He had 4.5 sacks in only 10 games, forced a fumble and kept making impact plays late in the year. His length and closing burst are hard to teach. I have him at an eight because he still needs to get sturdier against the run and prove he can survive a full season of attention, but the pass-rush arrow is pointing straight up.
Strengths: Booker has rare length, quickness and a growing ability to convert pressure into sacks. He can threaten the outside shoulder, close with violence and use his wingspan to disrupt passing lanes and strip the football.
Weaknesses: At 245 pounds he can be displaced when offenses run directly at him, especially if he loses leverage early. Ten games of breakout production are promising rather than conclusive, and he needs more counters when tackles sit on his first move.
