Joe Thuney Scouting Report (3)
Thuney is the rare lineman who changes an offense's personality. He is smart, durable and technically ruthless, giving Chicago a stabilizing star who makes hard plays look routine.
Strengths: Elite technique, intelligence, durability, pass protection, run-game consistency and championship leadership.
Weaknesses: At this stage, his only realistic limitation is that elite interior quickness can occasionally test his range in space.
Thuney is a 10 because he is still playing like one. He started every game again, won Protector of the Year, made first-team All-Pro and helped a young quarterback get hit only 24 times all season. The 163-for-163 regular-season start record is almost absurd. He wins with hands, balance and anticipation instead of highlight-reel violence, which is exactly why the tape stays so clean. Age is the only caveat at 33, but there is no performance reason to downgrade him right now.
Strengths: Thuney has elite hand placement, recovery balance, leverage and awareness. He recognizes stunts before they develop, rarely loses a clean pass-protection rep and can execute pulls, combination blocks and difficult second-level angles with veteran precision.
Weaknesses: There is no material on-field weakness in his current form. The only fair concern is age-related decline after 10 straight full starting seasons, and Chicago should manage practice workload to preserve his remarkable availability.
