Terrel Bernard

Bernard is the heartbeat of Buffalo's inside linebacker group: smart, urgent and trusted to set the tone. The defense needs his leadership, but it also needs him healthy for all seventeen games.

Strengths: Leadership, communication, instincts, tackling and defensive command.

Weaknesses: Recent availability issues required a cautious ramp-up and create a health question.

Bernard is the heartbeat of this linebacker room. The 2023 line—143 tackles, 6.5 sacks and three picks—showed how complete his game can be, and the Bills backed that belief with an extension and captaincy. Injuries have cut into the last two years, but not his impact when available. An eight fits a smart, rangy leader who can blitz, cover and tackle. Staying healthy is the final thing between him and a truly elite grade.

Strengths: He diagnoses quickly, brings real blitz timing and has proven takeaway instincts. Bernard can run the defense, chase sideline to sideline and stay involved in coverage rather than being only a downhill tackler.

Weaknesses: Recent injuries have reduced his game totals, and his 224-pound frame can be stressed by heavy blocks. He needs protection from big interior linemen and must remain available to justify the central role.
