Wil Lutz Scouting Report (3)
Lutz is exactly the kind of calm closer a good team wants. Denver can trust him to finish drives and handle pressure, and that confidence changes late-game decisions for Sean Payton.
Strengths: Clutch history, accuracy, experience, extra-point reliability and steady temperament.
Weaknesses: Kickers are inherently volatile in small samples, and long-range attempts remain a tougher ask than routine field goals.
Lutz has become one of Denver's quiet difference-makers. The huge leg is useful, but the better trait is how calm he has been when the game gets tight: five 2025 game-winners say plenty. Back-to-back strong Broncos seasons and the extension make him a foundational special-teams piece, not just a familiar Sean Payton connection.
Strengths: Reliable field-goal accuracy, proven late-game nerve and excellent extra-point consistency. He has veteran range, made 28 of 32 kicks in 2025 and has earned the trust of the coaching staff and locker room.
Weaknesses: Kicker volatility never disappears, and his 2025 87.5 percent was very good rather than flawless. Denver still needs to manage long-field-goal decisions based on conditions rather than assuming every attempt is automatic.
