Christian McCaffrey Scouting Report (4)
30 years old and still a monster. 3 rushing tds and he catches everything. niners are 3-0 and he's a huge part of it. workload is lighter than it used to be which probably keeps him fresh.
A reduced workload will make CMC more dangerous, not less — he'll still finish top five among RBs in yards from scrimmage.
Strengths: He's just as explosive as he's always been in Week 1 against the Rams.
McCaffrey came all the way back in 2025 and reminded everyone why the offense runs through him. He had 311 carries, caught 102 passes and finished with 2,126 yards from scrimmage and 17 touchdowns. That is a ridiculous amount of production. He did average a more ordinary 3.9 yards per carry, so not every run was vintage CMC, but defenses still have to change what they are doing whenever he moves out of the backfield. He reads blocks as well as any back in football and can run real receiver routes against linebackers. My only concern is how much punishment he has taken and whether another huge workload will catch up with him. When he is healthy, though, he is still a nine for me.
Strengths: His versatility is specific, not cosmetic. McCaffrey can press a zone track patiently, cut without gearing down, protect the quarterback and run option or choice routes with receiver-level awareness. The 102 receptions and 924 receiving yards in 2025 quantify how much stress he creates beyond conventional handoffs, while his red-zone feel helped produce 17 total touchdowns.
Weaknesses: The workload and durability ledger cannot be ignored after 311 carries and 102 receptions in one regular season, particularly given prior injury interruptions. His 3.9 yards per carry also shows that the 2025 rushing production was not consistently explosive; disciplined fronts can constrict the inside lanes and force the offense to manufacture his space through the passing game.
