Tory Taylor Scouting Report (3)
Taylor is a field-position weapon, not just a leg. He combines real distance with enough placement skill to turn a stalled Bears drive into an opponent's long field.
Strengths: Big leg, record-setting average, placement ability, composure and versatile emergency kickoff value.
Weaknesses: As with most young punters, the next challenge is sustaining the same hang-time and placement under every weather condition.
Taylor is already one of the cleanest wins from the 2024 class. The leg is enormous, but it is not just distance: he has 55 punts inside the 20 in two years and has given Chicago a 47.8-yard gross average in both seasons. An eight feels right for a punter who can change field position in one swing. The next step is squeezing the return and net numbers even higher when coverage and hang time have to work together.
Strengths: He has rare raw distance, proven directional touch and the temperament to handle a heavy workload. Taylor can flip a field from backed-up territory and has repeatedly delivered high-average games without becoming reckless near the goal line.
Weaknesses: A huge gross average does not always translate to the same net outcome when returns are available. He needs continued hang-time and placement consistency, particularly when the game situation calls for containment instead of maximum distance.
