Mac was way better than I expected last season. He had to start eight games and finished with 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns, six picks and a 97.4 rating. More importantly, the offense still looked like the 49ers' offense when he was in there. He got the ball out on time, completed almost 70 percent of his passes and did not take a ton of sacks. He is never going to create many miracle plays when everything breaks down, and his New England years showed what happens when the structure around him falls apart. As a backup in this system, though, he is a seven. The team can actually win games with him instead of just trying to survive.
Strengths: Jones throws with anticipation, is accurate on short and intermediate routes and understands where the answer should be against pressure. He processes this offense quickly enough to keep its rhythm, and his 7.4 yards per attempt in 2025 showed he was not living entirely on empty checkdowns.
Weaknesses: He offers limited creation outside structure and does not have the arm talent to erase late decisions. Interior pressure can speed up his feet and pull his accuracy down, while his broader career turnover history still matters despite a cleaner 2025 season.
